Hello Language Learners,
As I’ve mentioned before, I began my journey as an English language coach while working with children on an online platform that connected me with clients from China.
During that time, I taught back-to-back lessons with kids of all ages, an experience that was not only formative for my teaching style, but also gave me both the hard and soft skills needed to support students as they build their English from the ground up.
It was absolutely magical to watch these children grow from tiny A1-level speakers who could barely say, “I am happy!” into confident B2-level communicators who could chat with me about their weekend plans, favorite video games, and dreams for the future.
One of my longest-standing students, Sam, is a very special part of that chapter. We've been working together since he was just five years old, and I’m so proud of how far he’s come!
And despite the language barrier, Sam’s mother, Zhang Ou, and I have become great friends over the years. I even had the honor of helping her choose her English name: Emma.
Today, I want to share some of Emma’s insights on why she and her son are so dedicated to his English journey.
Emma’s words are a wonderful reminder that language learning is about so much more than grammar and vocabulary. It’s about building bridges, connecting with others, and opening doors to new opportunities.
Her dedication to Sam’s learning journey and their commitment to his studies are incredibly inspiring. I feel so lucky to be a part of their story, and I hope it encourages you to keep investing in your own path with language learning, one meaningful conversation at a time.
